Brief History

UBL operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain date back to the February 1969, when the first branch was opened in Manama, adjacent to Delmon Hotel, by His Royal Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa, the prime minister of Bahrain.

In October 1970, the second branch was opened at the busy commercial hub called “Bab Al Bahrain”. The branch was inaugurated by H.E Abdul Karim, the then Finance Minister of Bahrain. This followed the opening of the third branch at Muharraq (near the Bahrain International Airport) in 1973. The Bab Al Bahrain branch was relocated in 2007 to a new upcoming business hub called “Seef”.

UBL Bahrain is licensed as full commercial bank and is engaged in all commercial activities including working capital requirement, import export financing, LCs, letter of guarantee and contract financing. It’s corporate cliental includes leading Bahraini conglomerates and trading houses. It also provides retail banking products for Auto Loan, Credit Cards, Personal Loans, current & savings accounts, Term Deposit, and home remittance services called TezRaftaar for nonresident Pakistani nationals.

UBL Bahrain is also playing its due role in developing the human capital of the country. The continued focus on Bahrainization has resulted in Bahraini nationals accounting for 50% of our work force as of date; and stands amongst leading foreign banks who maintain such high ratio of Bahrainization. Apart from having high ratio of localisation, the expatriate workforce is also quite diversified having a nationality mix such as Pakistanis, Filipino and Bangladeshis.
